Networking Issues

The network used was end-to-end ATM.
The workstations were directly connected to the public network, with Interphase board. The WAN interfaces were STM-1 155 Mbits/s SDH and 34 Mbits/s PDH, in Spain and France. Oldenburg was connected to Rennes through three ISDN lines.
The network was based on national ATM experimental networks and the pan-European "ATM pilot" network. The throughput allocated for the project was 12 Mbits/s.
Two ATM channels were used on each side: 2 Mbits/s for data and 10 Mbits/s audio-visual AAL1 flows. The target service will reserve 8 to 10 Mbits/s for the examination transfer by stopping eventually the video.
