Objective (note: It is optional and may enclose a 'teaching interest')
After this presentation the audience will know how to deal with abstract structures. We think that this method is innovative in this meeting.
Introduction
Writing abstracts, as building PACS, may follow several different architectures. EuroPACS does not force to use a very formal/academic style, but the organizing committee knows that is more simple to review and rate structured documents.
Some people hope to have a model to be replicated. This paper will be a self-explanatory unit displaying how to prepare an 500 word abstract to be submitted for the EuroPACS'98 meeting.
Material and Methods (note: It may be 'System Description')
Abstracts should be in English, with a maximum length of 500 words (body) or two A4 pages.
The abstract should contain: Authors names, department, institution, and short address, followed by the body. The body may be structured following this model.
Presenting author was registered in EuroPACS'98. Presenting author appeared underlined on the abstract. (Presentation of accepted papers at the meeting is mandatory).
E-mail submission was strongly encouraged; abstracts (ASCII text with attached GIF/JPEG graphics, MS-Word 6.0, or HTML pages) were sent to: jpiquer(at)ar.vhebron.es
Using conventional mail, five copies of each abstract were sent to the organizing committee. Text versions were double spaced, and printed with a letter-quality typewriter/printer.
Abstracts have been rated for: relevante to EuroPACS topics, scientific value, innovativeness, and clear presentation of results and conclusion.
Results
All abstracts have followed a relatively homogeneous style and have been reviewed and rated easely.
Accepted papers have been notified and have received an information kit on how to prepare the final detailed and fully formatted manuscript. The final manuscripts had a length of up to 1000 words or four pages.Accepted papers have appeared in the EuroPACS'98 Proceedings and EuroPACS'98 Web site.
Discussion (note: It may enclose 'Conclusion')
Formalism on abstract preparation is not strictly necessary or mandatory, but it does not constrain the intellectual freedom of the authors, or innovative methods for transferring information between humans, is preferred in many settings.
Conclusion
EuroPACS'98 manuscript preparation and reviewing has been a satisfactory experience.
